THE SANROMANOWAY BOYS & GIRLS CLUB

Similar to our programming for the younger children, The San Romanoway Boys and Girls Program supports local Jane and Finch community families by providing a safe, professionally supervised and structured breakfast and afterschool program for children ages 9 to 12.

The children are dropped off at our centre each day at 7:30 a.m. where they are served a nutritious breakfast and a lunch for school. They are then walked by SRRA staff to their elementary schools.  The youth are then picked up by staff at their respective schools at 3:15 and brought back to until 6 p.m. and during that time, the professional staff and volunteers provide the youth with homework assistance and fun and educational activities that emphasis social growth, physical health, safe decision the centre, where they are served a hot meal.  The afterschool program runs making and learning.  The youth also receive homework assistance by volunteer tutors from Frontier College and York University’s Faculty of Education.  The tutors provide individual and group support for all school subjects, projects and assignments.

Providing a structured and safe program for this youth this age, with an emphasis on education and positive social growth, is immensely important for this community.  The fact that we can provide three meals while doing so, is a critical part of that success.  We are committed to serving youth and the diversified needs and demographics of the community we serve, with the ultimate goal of improving well-being and the youth’s chances of success.  Our breakfast and afterschool programs are important supports for successful children and a healthy community.
