SENIORS PROGRAM

Twice weekly, local seniors meet over lunchtime in a program they call the “Sunshine Group.” This program provides an important social network for the seniors who might otherwise find themselves inactive and isolated.   Founded with the understanding of the health benefits of social participation, the program strives to keep the seniors active and healthy, both mentally and physically.

The Sunshine Group keeps the seniors informed about community resources and provides a forum to hear guest speakers and discuss relevant topics and issues.  The program also plans workshops, fitness sessions, outing and activities, organizes volunteering at community events and participates with the SRRA Community Garden, where local produce is grown.

With the goals of fostering independence and self-reliance, the Sunshine Group programming is an invaluable tool in promoting and sustaining the social, mental, and physical health of seniors in the community.
