San Romanoway Revitalization Association Staff, Board of Directors, participants and the

families of the Jane-Finch community wish to thank ShowLove TO for the $10,000.00 grant

given to present the Tastes and Sounds of Jane-Finch.

The on-going pandemic presented unique challenges in hosting this much-loved community

event. Your kind support enabled us to present a smaller event, but one that was well received by

the community. During the pandemic many of the seniors and families in our community have

experienced an increase in isolation and the Tastes and Sounds presented an opportunity for the

community to gather, outside for socially distanced fellowship, good food and music. To hear

their laughter and chatter and see many of them dance to the music brought a sense of “normal”

for at least one day. The children from the San Romanoway Summer Camp, were able to join in

the activities with the Seniors, community members and officers from TPS 31 Division.

This year’s event presented a spotlight on the diversity of the community and featured foods

from local businesses that represented the Jamaican, Latin American, Caribbean and Asian

communities. The variety of food items were purchased from the local businesses and the

committee volunteers then packaged the hot food into individual containers for those in

attendance.

The music and entertainment were provided by a local DJ, featuring many artists that put a

spotlight on the diversity of Jane and Finch. DJ Troy was able to engage “all” ages to participate

at their chair or on the “tennis courts” which became the socially distanced, outdoor dance floor.

We had the privilege of sharing this event and spotlighting our culturally diverse community

with Humber River – Black Creek – Councillor, Anthony Perruzza, MPP Tom Rakocevic, MP

Hon. Judy Sgro and York Centre Councillor, James Pasternak.
